Syracuse China Tent Sale and Turtle Rescue

June 17, 2007

Lucie invited us to the big tent sale to find “nearly indestructible, restaurant grade” china dirt cheap! Well, we wanted to look for dishes together, didn’t we?

The welcome looks promising. Who couldn’t use more gracious dining?

There are lots O plates.

Lucie shows us what’s what with glazes and imperfections to look for. She’s the pro who designed a lot of these patterns. We finally pick a coupe style white and a red “Cantina!” pattern. Mix n match. Fun!

So there we are, happily driving to Jim and Lucie’s with our loot, when Lucie says “did you see that turtle?!” Turtles are my favorite, so we wing the car around and go back. From 50 yards or so you can see the long neck of a snapping turtle sticking way out, and he’s heading across the road. Isn’t he gorgeous?

Concerned, fascinated, probably misguided humans that we are, we must stop him from certain death! No crossing the 2-lane for this turtle while we’re around! But how?! It’s got back claws more than an inch long, and I’ve wigged Chris out by telling him it’ll whip it’s foot long neck back and bite him, and Jeff Corwin’s not here to show us what to do!
But we’ve got Syracuse China handy! THIS turtle’s going back to the creek!
