sweet fall

September 30, 2007

Yesterday, Andrea and I went to the small farm of her friend, Barb, to help spin the honey off the combs. Fall honey, 180 lbs of it all told, produced when the bees meet the goldenrod and then work their magic in the hive.

Barb says it takes a million bee trips to make 1 lb of honey. I took home 2 jars, one lighter and sweeter from early this summer, and another of the richer & darker fall honey. We will savor it and thank the bees.
