November’s last bloom, first snow

Strawberries b4 the snow-Nov07
Following the tradition of May Dreams Gardens’ “Garden Blogger’s Bloom Day,” in which you post what you’ve got going in your garden, bloomwise, on the 15th of the month, I scoured all around the yard 10 days ago and found one lonely November bloom, an improbable strawberry. Improbable because the flowers and fruit were not devoured by bunnies all summer, and because I didn’t realize strawberries were this cold hardy!

I was even more determined in my hunt since it was supposed to freeze and snow the following day, and the weatherman was right. Heavy wet flakes were falling around midnight, and we woke to an inch on sunny ground. Beautiful! Unless you are the last bloom in the garden…

Here, 10 days late, are before and after pictures, followed by some snowy fun.

no sign of berry blooms 18 hrs later…

the chard was my favorite. Here it’s hanging on for some bloom day color.
