Pink update

Floss Silk Tree, Chorisia speciosaThe pink tree is ID’d! It is a Floss Silk Tree, Chorisia speciosa. Native to Brazil and Argentina, identified by its spiny trunk, compound (not “schefflera-looking”) leaf structure, and large showy pink blooms.
It belongs in the Bombax genus but is not Bombax ceiba, the Silk Cotton tree, which has appeared in two of the books on my Africa reading list so far.
Don’t see ’em in West TX or central NY.

Thanks to Karel and Iva for the use of their excellent guide book for local trees.
