wildflower weekend

April 28, 2009

It was a perfect weekend for spring ephemeral botanizing. Late Friday afternoon found me wandering up a country road surrounded by more flowers than I could count. Saturday morning, I met Kathy Purdy at Cornell Plantations Mundy Wildflower Garden. Aside from Coltsfoot, I’d never seen any of these in bloom, let alone wild, so it was special to see them at last. Here are the pictures.

There were so many more, especially at Mundy: Skunk cabbage, double Bloodroot, other varieties of Trillium, May apple…Go out and see it all soon if you can. Today was 91 degrees, and they aren’t bound to stay long.

Nice. Looks like you took Saxton’s advice too and got your knees muddy (or dusty, anyway). If you every want any Caltha, holler. I’ve got more than I can shake a fist at in the wetlland. It even popped up in one of my beds.

Looks like you had a great day. Wonderful photos and finds I haven’t yet made this year. You seem to be in an area slightly ahead of me.
