CNY Blooms, a garden show this week

March 1, 2010

News flash: upstate NY has its own flower and garden show, and it’s this week in Syracuse!

There will be “10-12 competition gardens, local college participation, and garden clubs. With an emphasis on education, there will be many horticulturally relevant seminars and presentations.” Tickets are a reasonable 10 bucks per day or 20 for a weekend pass, and include multiple seminars given on Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday. Keynote speakers look good, too:

  • Thursday, 11 am-11:45am: Ed Dore, Dore Landscaping and Akron Tree Farms, “Choosing and Caring for Landscape Trees”
  • Saturday, 12:00-12:45: Dr. Donald J. Leopold, “Central New York’s Natural Wonders, Protected and Ecologically Significant Areas of Central New York”
  • Sunday, 12:00 – 12:45 Terry Ettinger, SUNY-ESF, “Gardening Q & A With Terry, Live!”

I will I lived nearby ~ it sounds as if it will be a good garden show. I imagine the education sessions will be well attended and interesting. The one here is a home show (with some landscaping thrown in).

My dog is like yours outside. He’s hard to get back indoors (once in, though, he naps away the afternoon). I hope you try growing Nicotiana again. They do well in sun and are so worth having for their evening scent.

I’ve always wanted to try planting some Freesia corms in spring and see if they’d flower before frost. Just haven’t done it yet ~

No where near the area, but sounds like a fun time. I always got the itch this time of year. Matti
